History
SARI Therapeutic Riding, founded in 1978 by Syd and Jeanne Greenberg, is a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities through the therapeutic power of horses. Created in memory of their daughter Sari, who passed away as a teenager, the organization began with a couple of horses and a few students. Today, SARI has grown into a 13.2-acre facility, serving over 350 participants annually with the help of 250 weekly volunteers and a herd of 20-plus horses. SARI continues to honour Sari’s legacy by fostering inclusion, independence, and personal growth through meaningful equine connections.
Testimonials
Norman
You have done so much for Normie and being able to ride Marshmallow every week has made him a very happy young man. You are all amazing and I thank you."
Trinity
Trinity cannot wait for her weekly riding lesson on Vixen and seeing her instructor whom she adores. In return Trinity is encouraged, challenged and supported to be at her best weekly. Thank you SARI!."
Connor
When Connor first started it was difficult for him to successfully complete a lesson without behavioural challenges... but once working with the instructors I started to see a real change in him; decreased anxiety levels that would continue for a couple of days after each lesson, the ability to better follow instructions, increased ability to communicate, improved strength and self-confidence, and as well, learning to think about other's feelings which included the horses. If you were to ask Connor how it feels to come to riding... he would tell you "it feels just like home"."
Tammy
Riding at SARI has been very physically rewarding for Tammy; she has seen great improvements in her balance and strength. Meeting a lot of new people has been a joy for her, as well Tammy just loves the horses (who are so good to her!). She has looked forward to going to SARI every week for the past 30 years, and will continue for many years to come!"
